Abstract
The acquisition of fundamental scientific knowledge is an integral aspect of education, and the teaching of mathematics at the secondary school level plays a crucial role in preparing students for higher studies in this field. However, many students still struggle with learning mathematics due to the perception of it being a subject filled with endless calculations and a lack of engaging activities, which often necessitates aggressive memorization for examination success. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of using modeling activity worksheets to improve students' mathematical learning outcomes. The participants of the study consisted of 213 students and 15 teachers from Balete Integrated School and Natalia V. Ramos Memorial Integrated School in the Division of Batangas City. The study used the descriptive research design employing the researcher-made questionnaire consisting of two parts where the first part dealt with the teacher’s observation of their students’ learning outcomes relative to their mathematical performance regarding problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking. On the other hand, the second part covered the problems that were met by the students’ respondents in developing the mathematical skills for better learning outcomes. Using the descriptive statistics – mean and standard deviation, results revealed relative to students’ mathematical performance, teachers’ respondents highly agreed on their learning outcomes as performing relatively well when it comes to students’ problem-solving, reasoning, and critical thinking. Meanwhile, in the second part of the questionnaire, findings show that there are problems that are met and experienced by the students’ respondents in studying mathematics that have affected their learning outcomes. As a result, the study designed modeling activity worksheets to enhance the mathematical skills of high school students for better learning outcomes. By engaging in these worksheets, students can actively apply mathematical concepts, strengthen their problem-solving abilities, and further develop their critical thinking skills.
