| This thesis proposed to enrich the mathematics learning experiences of primary pupils with the use of animated videos. Addressing the persistent challenge of low mathematics performance among primary learners in the Philippines, as evidenced by low scores in international assessments like TIMSS 2019, this study aimed to leverage animated videos to enhance engagement and comprehension. The research specifically sought to assess the current mathematics performance of primary learners, evaluate their interest and attitudes toward the subject, identify existing teaching strategies, and design a learning experience utilizing animated videos. This quantitative descriptive study involved surveying Grade 1, 2, and 3 learners to gather data on performance, interest, attitudes, and current teacher strategies. Animated videos were designed using creative tools like Canva and Animaker to facilitate learning experience. Findings indicate that primary pupils often rely on collaborative learning, including peer tutoring, when encountering difficulties in mathematics. Teachers are perceived to utilize diverse instructional strategies and visual aids. However, a significant gap exists in applying mathematics to real-life situations, and static graphic organizers are inconsistently used in lessons. The research confirms that animated videos are profoundly effective in enhancing student engagement, comprehension, and retention, especially for abstract concepts, by simplifying complex information and motivating learners. In conclusion, this study suggests that animated videos can significantly address the challenges in primary mathematics education by visually representing abstract concepts like fractions and augmenting existing teaching methods. By uniquely targeting non-numerate primary students in a specific public elementary school, the research proposes curriculum-integrated animated videos to bridge gaps in practical application and foster confidence in mathematics. |
