Abstract
Crucial to human perception, visual acuity plays a pivotal role in numerous academic and professional spheres, with a heightened significance in the medical realm. Precision in visual perception holds particular importance in nursing education due to its direct influence on patient care, clinical practices, and overall academic success. This action research, conducted at the University of Batangas, delves into the visual acuity of senior nursing students, addressing a critical yet understudied aspect of their academic and professional readiness. With a focus on factors influencing visual acuity, including age, gender, and eyewear usage, the study seeks to bridge existing gaps in literature, offering insights crucial for tailored educational practices. A sample of 51 fourth-year nursing students participated in the study through purposive sampling. Utilizing Google Forms, a survey gathered information on daily eyewear use, specific diagnoses, and visual acuity levels assessed by the Snellen chart. Analysis revealed a predominant age of 21 among respondents (46.3%), with females comprising 84.6%. While 34.6% reported daily eyewear use, 51.9% did not use prescription glasses regularly. Diagnoses included astigmatism (30.8%) and myopia (15.4%). Most respondents (49%) reported 20/20 visual acuity, with variations observed. The findings underscore the need for tailored interventions and support mechanisms to accommodate diverse visual health needs among senior nursing students. Recommendations include routine screenings, educational programs, and collaborations with eye care professionals.
