Abstract
Disasters, both natural and man-made, pose significant challenges to communities, necessitating rapid and effective responses. Nurses, often at the forefront of disaster management, are exposed to highly stressful environments, making psychological preparedness and resilience crucial for delivering effective care. This study aims to evaluate the psychological preparedness and resilience of newly registered nurses from the University of Batangas' Batch 2022-2023. A quantitative correlational research design was employed, utilizing a comprehensive online survey distributed to 49 newly registered nurses. The survey measured levels of psychological preparedness across various domains, including self-efficacy, behavioral capability, and observational learning, as well as resilience factors like coping strategies and interpretation of stressors. The findings revealed that the respondents, predominantly young adult females, demonstrated exceptionally high levels of psychological preparedness, particularly in observational learning, with a mean score of 3.75, and resilience, especially in coping strategies, with a mean of 3.70. Notably, a significant correlation was found between psychological preparedness and resilience, indicating that higher levels of preparedness are associated with greater resilience in disaster situations. The study underscores the importance of integrating psychological preparedness and resilience training into nursing curricula. Recommendations include specialized seminars, workshops, and simulation- based training to enhance nurses' practical skills and leadership in disaster management. Future research could explore longitudinal assessments of resilience and preparedness as nurses gain experience, as well as comparative studies across different institutions to refine educational approaches. These findings are pivotal for shaping disaster management strategies and educational frameworks, ensuring that newly registered nurses are equipped to meet the demands of healthcare during disasters effectively.
