Abstract
Clinical experience is where nursing students truly begin to understand what it means to care for patients, applying what they learned in the classroom to real healthcare situations. This study examined the clinical experiences, attitudes, and readiness of 93 fourth-year nursing students from the University of Batangas as they prepared to enter actual clinical environments. Using a quantitative design and a validated questionnaire, the research assessed their experiences in patient care, assessment and documentation, collaboration, simulation exposure, and ethical–professional practice. It also measured their attitudes in terms of empathy, resilience, coping, preparedness, and ethical awareness, as well as their readiness based on competence, confidence, decision-making, teamwork, adaptability, and professional identity. Findings showed that the students generally had favorable clinical experiences, positive attitudes, and a high level of readiness, though certain domains showed variations. Significant correlations were found between clinical experience and both attitude and readiness, indicating that meaningful clinical exposure positively shapes professional development. Meanwhile, the demographic profile showed no significant relationship with readiness. These results emphasize the need for practical support tools that connect theory to practice. Overall, the study reveals that University of Batangas’ nursing students are entering the profession with strong skills and developing confidence. To further support them, the researchers recommend creating a Clinical Guide Booklet to help strengthen essential attitudes and enhance readiness for future nursing roles.
