Abstract
As the nursing profession evolves to meet increasing healthcare demands, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) has become essential for registered nurses to enhance their competencies beyond traditional caregiving. This study explores the challenges staff nurses in Batangas City face in engaging with Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programs, focusing on the impact of the Philippine Nursing Act of 2002 and the CPD Act of 2016. The study profiles 108 nurses based on demographics and examines barriers related to personal factors, perceived relevance, organizational constraints, resource availability, and institutional support. Key findings show that most respondents were female, single, aged 31-35, with a Bachelor's Degree and 0-5 years of experience. Nurses were motivated to participate in CPD to improve patient care and address practice challenges, with organizational and institutional support playing a key role. A significant correlation was found between age and CPD challenges, particularly perceived relevance, while no correlation was found with educational attainment. The study highlights personal, organizational, and resource challenges in CPD engagement and proposes an action plan to increase participation through educational webinars and addressing barriers like scheduling conflicts and limited resources.
