Abstract
The use of electronic cigarettes is a growing concern in today’s society among college students, including nursing students. Existing literature highlighted a rise in e-cigarette users, this popularity has prompted the researchers to investigate how electronic cigarettes reached younger individuals, especially students. And in response to this public health concern, the Food and Drug Administration and the Department of Health have created policies to address the challenges of e-cigarettes. Additionally, advocacy efforts and public health campaigns have been carried out to improve young people's understanding and safety regarding e-cigarette use. This study focuses on the perceived risk factors toward electronic cigarette use among nursing students of University of Batangas. Using a descriptive correlational study, data was gathered from students across various year levels, revealing interesting insights. Although most respondents were male, around 20 years old, and had used e-cigarettes for less than a year, the study revealed a surprising result that nursing students generally did not agree with the perceived risk factors related to e-cigarette use. However, further analysis highlighted important relationships between specific demographic profiles, such as year level, and certain perceived risk factors. For example, sociocultural risk factors were found to differ among students of different year levels, while the duration of e-cigarette use was connected to behavioral risk factors. By focusing on these risk factors through well-designed educational programs, the University of Batangas has the potential to foster healthier behaviors and decrease the prevalence of e-cigarette use among its nursing students.
