Abstract
The increasing reluctance towards childhood vaccinations has become a significant concern, leading to a rise in cases of vaccine-preventable diseases among children. Vaccinations are essential in the public health sector for preventing the transmission of infectious diseases, emphasizing the importance of addressing this issue. To explore the determinants contributing to parental hesitancy, a non-experimental, quantitative approach alongside a descriptive correlational design study was conducted in selected barangays of Batangas City, focusing on thirty (30) vaccine-hesitant parents. The researchers utilized purposive sampling and employed self-formulated survey questionnaires validated by professionals to collect the pertinent data. The results of the study revealed that the majority of the vaccine-hesitant parents were females, aged between 18 to 37 years old, identified as Catholic, held college undergraduate degrees, were employed in permanent or tenured positions, with a monthly income of below Php 19, 040. Among ten vaccines, the Haemophilus influenzae Type B Vaccine was met with the highest level of apprehension. The determinants that highly contributed to parental hesitancy are the perceived barriers to action, activity-related affect, and health beliefs towards vaccination. Moreover, the study uncovered a significant correlation between the highest educational attainment of respondents and the perceived barriers to action, which influenced their hesitancy towards vaccinations. In line with the result of the study, an action plan was developed aimed at promoting childhood immunization and increasing vaccination acceptance rates among parents, addressing the identified determinants of hesitancy.
