Abstract
Work-related musculoskeletal pain is a prevalent issue among nurses due to the physical demands of their work, including lifting patients or heavy objects and working extended hours, often leads to strain on their muscles and joints, resulting in discomfort and pain. This persistent pain not only impacts their physical health but also affects their psychological and social well-being, affecting their work performance. The objectives of this study were to examine the effects of musculoskeletal pain on nurses' psychological and social well-being, and work performance, to identify effective interventions to reduce pain. This study employed a quantitative approach, utilizing surveys to gather data on the effects of work- related musculoskeletal pain on their psychological and social well-being. The demographic profile of respondents included age, sex, body mass index (BMI), shift length, years of experience, area of assignment, and patient load, with statistical tests like the Kruskal-Wallis’s test used for data analysis. Results revealed that most respondents were aged 31-35, with a higher incidence of musculoskeletal pain among female nurses (81%). Many respondents had normal weight (61%), worked 9–12-hour shifts (85%), and had 2-5 years of experience (68%). Most were assigned to the medical ward (46%) and managed 4-7 patients daily (49%). The discussion highlighted the need for targeted interventions, including ergonomic training, body mechanics education, and the implementation of ergonomic equipment. These measures aimed to improve job satisfaction, reduce absenteeism, and enhance patient care. This study concluded that musculoskeletal pain significantly impacts nurses' well-being and performance, recommending the development of comprehensive ergonomic training programs, informative materials on proper body mechanics, implementing ergonomic interventions in healthcare facilities, and further research to continuously enhance nurses' well-being and patient care quality.
