Abstract
Patient misidentification remains a persistent challenge in healthcare, often leading to adverse events and compromised patient safety. This study evaluated patient verification methods employed in selected healthcare facilities in Batangas Province to prevent misidentification incidents. Using a quantitative-correlational research design, data were gathered from 165 registered nurses across three hospitals: Saint Pascal De Baylon Hospital, Batangas Healthcare Specialists Medical Center, and Our Lady of Caysasay Medical Center. The study assessed both individual and system-level verification methods, including the use of two patient identifiers, step-by-step verification, standardized documentation, staff training, patient engagement, and technology integration. Findings revealed high compliance with patient safety protocols but highlighted inconsistencies in areas such as emergency procedures and technology utilization. Statistical analysis showed no significant correlation between demographic factors and the effectiveness of verification practices. The study concludes that while existing protocols are generally effective, targeted improvements particularly in interdisciplinary collaboration, feedback mechanisms, and emergency preparedness are essential. The results provide actionable insights for policy refinement and enhanced patient safety practices in local healthcare settings.
