Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) continues to pose a major global health threat, largely driven by the misuse and overuse of antibiotics. As frontline healthcare providers, staff nurses play a crucial role in the successful implementation of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (AMS). This study assessed the awareness and practices of 50 staff nurses from selected healthcare institutions in Batangas City regarding optimized antimicrobial use following the AMS core elements. Using a descriptive-correlational research design and a validated survey questionnaire, the study examined respondents’ profiles, level of awareness, current practices, and the relationship between these variables. Findings revealed that most respondents were young nurses with bachelor’s degrees assigned across various hospital units, with general ward nurses comprising the largest group. Overall, nurses demonstrated high awareness of AMS, particularly in hospital leadership, accountability, and pharmacy expertise. Their practices likewise aligned with AMS core processes, especially in action, tracking, reporting, and patient education. Lastly flyers were proposed by the researcher that includes the information and proper practices inclined with the core elements of Antimicrobial Stewardship Program
