Abstract
The integration of hospital information systems (HIS) in clinical settings has become essential in improving patient care and promoting the application of evidence-based practice (EBP). This study aimed to determine the role of HIS in facilitating EBP in selected hospitals in Batangas. A quantitative descriptive design was employed, involving sixty (60) staff nurses from three private hospitals utilizing the Bizbox HIS. The researchers used a validated survey questionnaire to gather data on respondent profiles and their perceptions of the extent to which HIS supports EBP. Findings revealed that the majority of respondents were female, aged 24 to 35 years old, with two to five years of nursing experience, trained in HIS use, and frequently using the system per shift. Results showed that HIS facilitated EBP to a very great extent across its components, particularly in enhancing patient profiles, supporting nursing and ancillary services, and improving requisitions, billing, and surgical documentation. Statistical analysis further revealed significant correlations between HIS utilization and the integration of clinical expertise, best evidence, and patient values in care delivery. Based on these results, an action plan was proposed to strengthen HIS optimization and training programs, ensuring the advancement of evidence-based, patient-centered care in healthcare institutions.
