Abstract
Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) remains a common hospital- acquired infection that compromises patient safety and prolongs hospital stays. This quantitative-descriptive correlational study examined the relationship between contributing risk factors and preventive strategies for CAUTI among fifty-six (56) staff nurses from selected private healthcare institutions in Batangas City, Philippines. Data were collected using a validated researcher-made questionnaire and analyzed using frequency counts, weighted means, and Pearson correlation. Results identified prolonged catheterization and poor aseptic technique during insertion as the most common risk factors, while infection control compliance and staff education emerged as the most practiced preventive strategies. No significant relationship was found between nurses’ demographic profile and their preventive strategies (p > 0.05). The study highlights the need for continuous education, surveillance, and strict protocol reinforcement to reduce the incidence of CAUTIs. As part of the study’s action plan, an informational infomercial video was developed to present CAUTI, its associated risk factors, and evidence-based prevention strategies, with the aim of enhancing awareness and promoting consistent adherence to proper catheter care practices.
