Abstract
Workplace health and safety is an aspect in the nursing profession that significantly impacts how nurses render their care. In today’s complex healthcare system, nurses face daily risks to their own health and safety. While providing care and improving the health and well-being of their clients, they are also in constant threat of injuries, infections, and physical strain that come with working in a clinical environment. This study examines the profile of the respondents and the workplace health and safety strategies of staff nurses in selected government and private health care institutions in Batangas Province with a sample of 29 nurses from government institutions and 15 nurses from private health care institutions. The study aims to determine the correlation between the profile of the respondents in terms of their age, sex, length of experience, highest educational attainment, area of assignment, training and seminar on workplace safety, and employed institutions and the different workplace safety and health strategies of staff nurses in terms of hazard prevention and control, education and training, hazards identification and assessment, worker participation and management and leadership. A descriptive correlational research design was utilized to examine the relationship between the workplace health and safety strategies and the profile of staff nurses and a self-structured survey questionnaire was used to gather quantitative data from the participants. The statistical analysis revealed that there is a significant correlation between the respondents’ profile and the workplace health and safety strategies suggesting that hospital employment is significantly correlated to the workplace health and safety strategies of the staff nurses. The researchers recommend regular updates on the workplace health and safety policies, collaborative programs on workplace health and safety among the government and private health care institutions, regular workplace health and safety training and seminar programs, and an infographic to promote awareness on the importance of proper workplace health and safety.
