Abstract
Male nursing students often face unique challenges when handling obstetrics and gynecology (OB-Gyne) patients due to gender stereotypes, patient discomfort, and cultural norms that may affect their confidence and clinical performance. Addressing these challenges is essential to ensure equitable learning opportunities and quality patient care. This quantitative correlational research aimed to identify strategies for addressing the challenges encountered by male nursing students in theOB-Gyne setting at the University of Batangas. The study involved 76 selected male nursing students from second to fourth year levels. Data were gathered through structured survey questionnaires and statistically analyzed to determine the relationship between the challenges faced and the strategies applied. Results revealed a statistically significant but weak positive correlation (r = 0.296, p = 0.009), indicating that as challenges increase, students tend to employ more adaptive strategies to cope with difficulties. The findings suggest that male nursing students develop resilience and coping mechanisms to overcome gender-related barriers in OB-Gyne rotations. Lastly, the researchers proposed a self-directed “Toolkit” that includes guidelines on professionalism, gender sensitivity, patient comfort, peer support, and digital learning materials to enhance clinical competence and promote gender equity in nursing education.
