NURSING STUDENTS' AWARENESS AND ATTITUDE ON COMPLIANCE TO HEALTH PROTOCOL GUIDELINES IN SKILLS LABORATORY DURING LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES

Abstract
Safety is significant at every level of healthcare education and can have a probable impact on nursing students' learning and welfare in clinical settings, especially in this time of pandemic. To promote safety, students' commitment to following health protocol guidelines is critical in order to reduce the risk of the virus. This quantitative and non-experimental descriptive research study aimed to assess the 40 third and 30 fourth-year nursing students of the University of Batangas in terms of their awareness and attitudes on compliance to health protocol guidelines implemented by the University of Batangas' Crisis Management Team. The researchers used simple random and purposive sampling designs, where all the respondents under the new curriculum had undergone limited face-to-face exposure. The results of the study showed that the majority of the third- and fourth-year nursing students are aware to a very great extent of the health protocol guidelines and have positive attitudes towards complying with them. It was also revealed that there is no significant relationship between their demographic profile and level of awareness and attitude as per compliance. Furthermore, it was determined that there is no significant association between the students’ level of awareness and attitude. As a result, the researchers proposed a feasible action plan to assist nursing students in maintaining awareness and a positive attitude toward compliance with health protocol guidelines in order to apply acquired nursing knowledge and skills in clinical practice.
