Abstract
The increasing environmental concerns regarding plastic pollution have driven the search for sustainable food packaging alternatives. Beeswax wraps present a promising solution, offering reusability, biodegradability, and food safety benefits. This study examines the effectiveness of the BEEco Pack, a beeswax-coated cotton wrap, as an alternative to plastic wraps. Using a descriptive-experimental approach, the research evaluated the characteristics, development process, and overall acceptability of the BEEco Pack. Parents and canteen staff members participated in the study, providing insights through surveys and observations focused on key factors such as odor resistance, adhesion, and water resistance. Results show that beeswax wraps effectively resisted odors, adhered naturally to surfaces, and repelled water, making them suitable for food preservation. However, limitations were observed in their ability to retain oils, prevent sauce absorption, and in leaving a slight waxy-odor to the food. Overall, respondents showed a positive reception toward using the BEEco Pack for wrapping dry foods. However, there were concerns when it came to oily foods and those with little amount of sauces, highlighting areas for improvement. No major differences were found between the perspectives of parents and canteen staff, reinforcing the product’s potential for both household and commercial use. The study concludes that while the BEEco Pack is a viable eco-friendly alternative, its formulation needs improvement to improve oil resistance.
