Abstract
This research paper explores the relationship between visual design elements of animated characters and their influence on audience engagement, particularly among senior high school students. The study focuses on key visual components such as color, emphasis, and silhouette, as well as viewer interest factors like character impression, distinctiveness, and expression. Using a descriptive-correlational research design and online survey questionnaires administered to collect data from 100 senior high school students at the University of Batangas. The study aims to identify how these visual aesthetics contribute to capturing and sustaining viewer attention. Key findings highlight the importance of color, emphasis, and silhouettes in enhancing character design. These elements significantly influence audience perception by evoking emotions, creating memorable impressions, and fostering empathy. Additionally, the study explores the psychological depth embedded in character design, emphasizing that visual aesthetics alone are insufficient without integrating emotional and narrative complexity. In conclusion, this research contributes to the animation industry by providing actionable insights into effective character design strategies. It proposes guidelines for animators to improve viewer engagement through innovative use of color, silhouette, and emphasis. By bridging artistic intent with viewers' response, this study underscores the critical role of character visual aesthetics in shaping the success of modern animated films.
